We continue our Father/Son adventure and leave the city and head toward Death Valley.
Our first stop was here at the Tecopa Hot Springs to wash off the trail dust and take the waters.
These springs were given to Inyo County, with the stipulation that its use be free of charge.
Men and women have separate pools, housed in newly painted one-story concrete buildings. As you approach for the first time, you will wonder (as I did) why in the world people rave about this place. It almost looks disreputable. Trust me, you will be delighted.
The next obstacle for some may be that in order to avoid contaminating the waters (no chlorine is used), people must shower first and then soak nude (following the instructions of the donor), just like they used to do down at the YMCA and the old swimming hole.
The County, being the way counties are, could not find the funds to operate this facility, so they contracted the management out and started charging a fee. Still a cheap soak though.
Refreshed, we continue our drive toward Death Valley.
As we make our way through the desert, we see many valleys and mountains.
Jason is crammed in the back of the Wrangler.
Here's a typical road through the desert.
We put the Wrangler to the test.
And explore many old mining sites.
Hale driving us through the desert.
