We eat supper in Joseph, and our waitress mentions going to the Philippines with her family. When I sold books in the Enterprise/Joseph area back in 1981, I stayed with Mel and Mary Lou Brinks. Mary Lou is Filipino, so I asked our waitress if she was related to Mary Lou. Her jaw dropped and eyes bugged and said that's my Grand Mother. We make contact with Mel and Mary Lou and spent about an hour with them catching up before heading to our motel. It wasn't much, in fact, it was very bad, but it was the last room in town. Next morning, we head back to the Brinks' place and try out a pond on their place that is stocked.
The view from the Brinks back yard.
Didn't have much success at the fishing hole.
Leaving town, we stopped to watch some fire fighters practice helicopter support.
Checked out a strange business.
Did a little fishing.
Then we made our way on to Hood River and checked out the Columbia Gorge Hotel.
It is known for its beautiful gardens.
Parker is checking out some of the history.
The Columbia River.
