We put the game behind us, and we head up to the mountains, looking for hot water.
First stop was Skinnydipper Hot Springs.
Next stop was Rocky Canyon Hot Springs on the banks of the Middle Fork of the Payette River. It requires a river crossing. The water level was easy to navigate on the day we were there, but high water could be a problem. It has recently been the subject of a great deal of rock and cement work. It is now a world class soak.
Here's Chris taking the waters. This one definitely gets on the Must Come Back To List.
Next stop was Pine Flats Hot Springs, and it did not appear to be much of a soak. We passed on it. The hot water source was up the hill from here and was very interesting, with a very good flow. With a little work this could be a great soak. Perhaps the campground up the hill discourages this kind of effort. The Hot Springs guides say there is a much better soak just around the corner; however, it wasn't there when we visited.
Then we tried out Ten Mile Hot Springs. Didn't bother to qualify; however it was a neat hike in to the springs.
The day was about gone, and it had begun to rain a little. Next stop was Sacagawea Hot Springs. When we turned off the main road for this springs, I noticed one of the "Lodging" signs. Hold that thought for the moment though.
Chris is qualifying here in one of the pools, but it didn't last long, as the experience was ended prematurely by a cold rain.
The weather not cooperating, and we decided to drive up the road a little to check out the lodging. We came upon the Sawtooth Lodge.
