Oregon 10/2008 Ben - Day 1

Our Youth Director, Ben, gets permission from his bride to head out west with me and explore the wilds of Oregon, as well as do some planning for a mission trip this summer. We arrived at PDX, picked up our vehicle, and headed out to the Coast.

First stop was Cape Meares.

Looks like the Goonies are nearby.

The Cape Meares Light House.

Above is the top of the lighthouse, approaching from the land, and below is the full shot.

Here Ben is getting some instruction from one of the Volunteer Keepers

on how the Fresnel lens works.

Next, we stopped to check out the sand dunes.

Later, Ben checks out the Pacific Ocean at Pacific City.

More coast

and waves.

Next stop was Depoe Bay.

As it says, it's a really small harbor.

Depoe Bay is also the home of the Inn at Arch Rock, where Ricky and I spent some time.

As we continue on, the coast just amazes.

Ben checks out the Pacific Ocean.

Now he's looking for Rebbecca.

On to the Devil's Punchbowl.

Another view of the area.

As the light begins to fade, we stop to watch a wind surfer

and some more coast.

We arrive at the Yaquina Head Lighthouse.

As the sun sinks, the lighthouse is cast in shadows.

And the surrounding area.

As Day 1 on the Oregon Coast draws to an end,

we cap it off with a stop at the Chowder Bowl at Nye Beach in Newport.
