Oregon 07/2008 Asa & Graves Day 3

After a great breakfast of bacon and eggs, we head out toward Crater Lake.

The first stop was an old homestead at the Box Canyon Pass.

Next stop was one of Oregon's many Covered Bridges. The roof is to keep the wood from rotting, not keep the snow and ice off.

One on the beautiful rivers that we passed.

As we gained altitude, we find some snow on the side of the road, and Asa starts a snow ball fight with Jordan.

Hope Asa is wearing his cup, because it looks like Jordan is about to take him out.

Ahhh. Love a dirt road in the mountains.

We make it to Crater Lake.

The boys get there first look at Crater Lake.

There's lots of snow here.

So a snow ball fight was bound to break out.

Asa is bringing out the big gun!

Jordan looks like he having too much fun.

Enough of that, it's on to the rim of the Lake.

Isn't this were the Ranger almost arrested the boys for going over the fence to an area that was off limits? Oh, that's right, their Moms were not supposed to know about this.

This is a strange photo, Asa is at parade rest and Jordan is at ease.

Wizard Island is the top of a volcano

rising up out of the Lake.

We didn't pay any attention to signs like these.

This is the classic blue water of Crater Lake.

Here's the Crater Lake Lodge, a great place to stay and eat.

Are you boys supposed to be down there? What did those signs say?

We left Crater Lake and tried to make our way back north toward Eugene. We had to turn back several times due to snow covering the road and trees blocking the road (and this is July). Finally, we find a place by a nice river to camp. Unfortunately, the mosquitoes just about ate us alive.

The camp is set up.

And we escape the bugs in our tents.

To make matters worse, it rained during the night and early morning; forcing us to break camp without cooking breakfast, as we head back to Eugene.
