Did I mention that the sell good beer here?
The Kobe burgers are just about the best. Kobe refers to beef from the black Tajima-ushi breed of Wagyu cattle, raised according to strict tradition in, Japan. Kobe beef is renowned for its flavour, tenderness, and fatty well-marbled texture. Kobe beef can be prepared as steak, ground hamburger patties and more.
Next morning, Clif and I head to the Coast, but stop for a little breakfast nourishment at Burrito Boy.
We make it to the Coast and check out some of the sand dunes. This is about the most northern part of the Oregon dunes. America's answer to the grand Sahara nestled between the Oregon's Coast Mountains and the Pacific Ocean.
Next stop was the Sea Lion Caves. Very touristy.
The caves were full of sea lions and there was a view of Heceta Head Lighthouse.
Next stop, the Heceta Head Lighthouse.
Coming down from the 101, Clif and I got to get close to the Pacific.
We were able to do some rock scrambling because the tide was out.
Clif on the rocks. It was a cold and rainy day on the Oregon Coast.
On the west side of 1,000-foot-high Heceta Head, 205 feet above the ocean, the lighthouse is one of the most photographed on the coast. The light at top of 56-foot tower was illuminated in 1894; the automated beacon, seen 21 miles from land, is rated as the strongest light on the Oregon coast.
The historic assistant lighthouse keeper's house (Heceta House; built 1893) offers bed and breakfast rentals and facilities for group events.
We continued on up the Coast to Cape Perpetura.
Situated between Newport and Florence along Highway 101, Cape Perpetua is a typical Pacific Northwest headland, forming a high steep bluff above the ocean. At its highest point, Cape Perpetua rises to over 800 feet (240 m) above sea level. From its crest, an observer can see 70 miles (110 km) of Oregon coastline and as far as 37 miles (60 km) out to sea on a clear day. It continually draws visitors with incredible views, magnificent forests, and all-out beauty in many forms. Encompassing approximately 2700 acres of land, the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area boasts twice the botanical mass, per square acre, as the Amazon jungle in South America.
A day of touring about done, we stop for fuel and beer. Clif is working on that bread bowl of Clam Chowder. I remember when I could enjoy one of those.
I got the Slumgullion, which is Clam Chowder with bay shrimp, mmmm good.
